A civil servant is someone who works for the government.
"I've put my foot in it!" means I've said or done something embarrassing.
"He shouldn't have done that." - He did it, and I think it was wrong. "He wouldn't have done that." - I don't think he did it.
Looking something up is checking it in a book, for example checking a word in a dictionary. Looking something over means checking it from every angle for example, examining a car you want to buy.
"We stopped to chat" means we stopped doing something, and started chatting. "We stopped chatting." means we were chatting, but have stopped.
If you got 5-10 answers right, you are comfortable at Advanced level.
If you got more than 10 answers right at your first try, you are very advanced. Perhaps you should consider moving on from EFL, and using a language development course designed for native speakers.
