 The Passenger's Window

By Marianne Brown

motorway bridge streams past

makes streaks of metal mist

white light waves

so fast

bright arms undulate

anemone dance

things glint between us

I saw them

as I was roared through the night tide

when you move in me

your salt on my lips

hips lap unresisting softness

we writhe into new shapes

body limbs

ripple

glisten

as lights pass

steam on

the glass

-through the breath-shapes

skin of an octopus-

glimpse the great

black

silt bed

dissolve into clouds

and mists
